Analyzing Inventory Turnover Performance in Different Retailing Mode of Operations

    Get PDF
Inventory turnover differs across different retailers and operation modes employed by the retailers. Such a variation while undermining the usefulness of inventory turnover for performance analysis; requires particular attention. We perform an empirical analysis using sales data from a large retail firm for the year 2013-2016 for investigating the relationship of inventory turnover with mode of operations. The analysis reveals that the variation of inventory turnover among different mode of operations is much larger than variation of inventory turnover within each mode. So there is significant relationship between mode of operations and inventory turnover. This study inspects the influence of different channel structures on inventory turnover in a large supermarket, which has employed multiple modes of operations in different categories

Retail inventory is an important indicator for retailers as well as their shareholders and suppliers. Inventory enables retailer to sell products to customer but excessive or slow moving inventory also add extra cost. For shareholders and suppliers this is an indication of retailer’s bright or grim future. The aim of this research is to analyze the inventory turnover’s impact on the performance variables of profit margin percentage and sale surprise in one of the retailing firm of Hubei province China. We will study if inventory turnover is affected by profit margin percentage and sale surprise similarly across all categories and modes of operation in retail firm or there is some variation in the known behavior. We will be testing our hypothesis on data of a large local supermarket chain that operates in the Hubei province of China. They have multiple supermarkets in the tier 1 and tier 2 cities of the province. We investigate correlation of inventory turnover with profit margin percentage and sale surprise across different categories and modes of operation. The analysis reveals that there is a negative correlation between Inventory Turnover and profit margin percentage, while positive correlation exists between Inventory Turnover and Sale surprise across all categories and modes. But its rate of correlation varies between categories and channel structure

We study the effects of product variety on operational metrics - inventory turnover and on sales in different mode of operations. Research has shown that performance metrics can vary in different mode of operations. Using 41 months of data from a large retailer, we show that correlation of product variety with inventory turnover and sales is not always negative or positive as shown in previous studies. This correlation can vary depending upon the mode of operations and type of product. Our study highlights impact of increased product variety on inventory turnover and sales in different mode of operations that has previously been overlooked in studies of retail product variety and inventory management. It also quantifies the impact of product variety on inventory turnover and sales

Using a cross-sectional design, data was collected from 350 respondents in a Malaysian context. The results showed that waqf practices have a direct positive effect on poverty mitigation and family well-being. Family well-being, in turn, partially mediates the relationship between waqf and poverty mitigation. The study provides evidence for the potential of waqf practices to improve family well-being, which can ultimately contribute to poverty reduction. The findings have important implications for policymakers, organizations, and Islamic philanthropists involved in poverty reduction efforts. Policymakers can promote and support waqf practices to mitigate poverty, while organizations can focus on initiatives that improve family well-being. The study highlights the importance of family well-being in poverty reduction efforts and provides valuable insights for poverty reduction strategies and initiatives

The epidemiology of stroke In a developing country (Pakistan)

    Get PDF
Ischemic stroke is a major cause of neurological morbidity and mortality. The objective of this review article is to summarize facts pertaining to acute ischemic stroke and its various aspects in a developing country like Pakistan, where resources are limited and the healthcare system is underdeveloped. No large-scale epidemiological studies are available to determine the true incidence of stroke in Pakistan. We conducted a study to determine the prevalence of several important stroke risk factors among Pakistani stroke patients, and to determine whether these risk factors differ among urban versus rural populations. We also used existing data from literature to compare overall stroke incidence in Pakistan to that in developed countries. In this study we found that for stroke besides hypertension, prolonged contraceptive use and pregnancy are additional risk factors in Pakistan. Which is more prevalent in urban populations than rural population? Developed countries except Germany have much lower stroke incidences than Pakistan

In-vitro anticoccidial potential of Saccharum officinarum extract against Eimeria oocysts

    Get PDF
Present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of aqueous methanolic extract from Saccharum officinarum on the sporulation and morphology of oocysts of four Eimeria species (Eimeria tenella, E. necatrix, E. mitis, E. brunetti) of poultry. Sporulation inhibition bioassay was used to evaluate the activity of Saccharum officinarum extract (SOE) on the sporulation of coccidian oocysts. In this assay, unsporulated oocysts were exposed to six concentrations of S. officinarum in 10% dimethyl sulfoxide solution (w/v; 10, 5, 2.5, 1.25, 0.625 and 0.31%) while DMSO and potassium dichromate solution (K2Cr2O7) served as control groups. The Petri dishes were partially covered to allow the passage of oxygen and incubated at 25-29° C for 48 h, providing 60-80% humidity. The sporulation of the oocyst was confirmed by examining sporocysts under inverted microscope at 40x. Results showed anticoccidial activity of SOE against all Eimeria species as proved by its ability to inhibit the sporulation of the oocysts under laboratory conditions. Inhibition of sporulation was observed in dose dependent manner. S. officinarum extract at higher dose also damaged the normal morphology and shape of oocysts of Eimeria species

Frequency and reasons for delayed treatment initiation after HIV diagnosis: cross-sectional study in Lahore, Pakistan

    Get PDF
Background: Well-timed initiation of HIV therapy enhances life expectancy, decreases mortality and morbidity, and inhibits the transmission of HIV and complications related to it. The purpose of the present survey is to investigate the frequency and reasons for delayed initiation of anti-retroviral therapy (ART) and to determine its relationship with various socio-demographic variables and HIV-related characteristics. Methods: The analysis is based on a cross-sectional study involving 355 people living with HIV (diagnosed by PCR) who were more than 18 years of age and not receiving HIV therapy before enrolment at the HIV clinics of two selected tertiary-care teaching hospitals in Lahore, Pakistan. In this study, delayed initiation of ART was defined as not attending the HIV management centre or a clinic for ART within 3 months of a confirmed diagnosis. The participants were selected using a systematic probability sampling technique. Bivariate logistic regression was performed using a backward stepwise technique to establish the variables related to delayed onset of HIV therapy. Factors significant at p <= 0.20 were considered for multivariate analysis, which was used to describe the association between independent factors and delayed initiation of treatment. Results: Delayed onset of ART was observed in 28.5% of individuals. Factors such as no schooling (AOR = 5.92; 95% CI: 1.38-25.41; p = 0.017) and occasional household income (AOR = 3.88; 95% CI: 1.01-14.89; p = 0.048) were significantly associated with late onset of ART. Our research findings also indicated that the main reasons for late beginning of HIV therapy were: feeling healthy (45.5%), did not have time to go to the HIV treatment centre (42.6%), did not want to discuss HIV test result (37.6%), and fear of stigma and discrimination within their community (35.6%). Conclusions: Late commencement of HIV therapy in Pakistan is common, and an improved connection is needed between identification of HIV and beginning of therapy. HIV management centres should counsel and monitor patients from the time of a positive HIV test result until they initiate therapy

Data on road traffic accident (RTA) injuries and their outcome are scarce in Pakistan. This study assessed patterns of RTA injuries reported in Rawalpindi city using standard surveillance methods. All RTA injury patients presenting to emergency departments of 3 tertiary care facilities from July 2007 to June 2008 were included. RTA injuries (n = 19 828) accounted for 31.7% of all injuries. Among children aged 0-14 years females suffered twice as many RTA injuries as males (21.3% versus 11.4%), whereas this trend reversed for the age group 15-24 years (41.9% versus 21.7%). One-fifth of injuries were either fractures or concussion. Severity and outcome of injuries were worse for the age group 45 years and older. For every road traffic death in Rawalpindi city, 29 more people were hospitalized and 177 more received emergency department care. These results suggest the need for better RTA injury surveillance to identify preventive and control measures for the increasingly high road disease burden in this city
